Many of Washington’s nightlife and entertainment venues are still closed today following Hurricane Sandy, so for this edition of About Tonight, here is what is open and what is closed.
MUSEUMS: All Smithsonian Institution facilities, including the National Zoo, are closed today. Additionally, the National Gallery of Art, Phillips Collection, National Museum of Women in the Arts, National Geographic Museum and the Corcoran Gallery of Art are all closed today.
THEATER: The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Theater J, Shakespeare Theatre Company and Signature Theatre will go on with scheduled performances tonight. The Studio Theatre, Folger Theatre, Ford’s Theatre and Round House Theatre are closed today.
MOVIES: AMC Theatres at Georgetown, Mazza Gallerie in Friendship Heights and the Uptown Theatre in Cleveland Park may open later this afternoon. Landmark E Street Cinema and Landmark Bethesda Row are open this evening. West End Cinema is Open. The Avalon Theatre is open.
MUSIC: Heartless Bastards are still playing the Black Cat. Grouplove’s show at the 9:30 Club has been postponed and its DJ set at U Street Music Hall has been canceled. Red Palace is open, featuring a set by Free Lobster Buffet. Rock and Roll Hotel is closed. The Howard Theatre is open, with The Tubes scheduled to play. Laurie Anderson and Banjo Summit’s show at Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria has been postponed, but Thomas Dolby is still set to play. Strathmore in North Bethesda is closed tonight.
