If a sense of humor matters at all in the voting for National League Rookie of the Year, other contenders, please step back. You’ve just been beaten by Bryce Harper. Like much of the rest of the English-speaking world, the Nationals’ outfielder celebrated Halloween last night.

And what did Harper go as?

What else?

Harper’s costume consisted of standard clownish accoutrements like a rainbow wig, oversize novelty glasses, a polka-dotted bow-tie and a red foam nose, along with personal touches like one of his licensed “Don’t be a clown, bro” T-shirts made by Under Armour and a full-body spandex unitard. (He later added a pair of shorts.)

Also, note the socks. For Halloween, Harper mismatched some of Adidas’ new Robert Griffin III-branded socks. Last month, Harper spent two hours driving around Las Vegas just to obtain a few pairs of the hosiery.

Also also, when the trick-or-treaters came knocking last night, the Harper household was at the ready with full-size candy bars. Yeah, even on Halloween the kid is super-competitive.

Anyway, well done on the clown costume, Bryce. Meme complete.
