Grosso

Grosso

David Grosso, an independent running for one of two At-Large seats on the D.C. Council, burned through $82,000 in two weeks in October, leading all other candidates in the race to replace Councilmembers Michael Brown (I-At Large) and Vincent Orange (D-At At Large).

Since starting his campaign last year, Grosso has raised $157,000, but he’s sat on it through most of 2012. In early October, he reported having $67,000 left in the bank, and since then he raised another $29,000. With less than a week to go until Election Day, Grosso has $14,000 left to spend. Of the $82,721.31 he reported spending between October 11-29, the majority was used to pay for mailers to D.C. voters promoting his candidacy and attacking Brown.

Brown raised $15,000 and spent $24,000 in the same period, and has just over $7,000 left in the bank. Though Brown has raised $230,000 for his re-election campaign, $113,000 of that was reported stolen earlier this summer. Brown blames his former campaign treasurer for taking the money, but D.C. police have yet to file any charges in the case.

Among the other challengers, Republican Mary Brooks Beatty raised $4,200 and spent $16,000, leaving her with just over $4,000 in the bank. A.J. Cooper took in close to $5,000 and spent $3,800, leaving him with $1,400 until Election Day. Leon Swain collected $3,600 (including a $2,000 loan to himself) and spent $5,800, and has $6,900 left on-hand. Orange raised $3,800 and has $15,000 left to spend.
