In response to the outcry over Major League Soccer’s decision to swap D.C. United’s home playoff date with the New York Red Bulls’—which resulted in United losing their home-field advantage and forced many United fans to re-arrange their travel plans—the club is arranging for free transportation and entry to the second leg of United’s Eastern Conference semifinal set on Wednesday in Harrison, N.J.

“We knew alternating the game schedule was going to impact a lot of our most committed supporters, and providing a free bus trip and ticket became a top priority for us,” Kevin Payne, D.C. United’s president and CEO, said in a news release today. “We hope this will allow a significant number of supporters to make the mid-week trip to Red Bull Arena to create the best-possible atmosphere for the team.”

The cost of hiring buses to transport D.C. fans to New Jersey next week is being covered by United, while tickets to the game are being covered by the New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer, says United spokesman Kyle Sheldon. The league and teams are splitting the cost of this offer “to ensure that our supporters are able to attend,” Sheldon says.

United fans interested in taking advantage should email roadtrips@screaming-eagles.com to secure their spot. You can also check out the Screaming Eagles’ facebook page for pickup locations and times. I reached out to the team today to find out what the total ticket allotment is and was told that it was still to be determined, depending on demand. I’d say it’d be in your best interest to act sooner rather than later.

Correction: This post originally stated the cost of the buses and game tickets would be covered by Major League Soccer. The expense is being split between D.C. United, the New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer.
