Tom Goss, a D.C.-based singer and songwriter, subjected himself to quite the messy ordeal in the video for his song “Make Believe.” In the video, which clocks in at just over two minutes, Goss is pictured laying face up on a table, wearing absolutely nothing save a strategically positioned clock.
But as the song plays, Goss’ body is painted into a tropical island landscape featuring two cartoon characters chasing each other around. Goss says the song is about early-stage relationship problems when one person is hesitant about chasing another.
For the time-lapse effect, though, Goss stretched the song to more than an hour, which he says turned made it sound like an ambient noise track. (And something we wouldn’t mind hearing if just for the slow-wave effect.) The painting, done by the artist Scott G. Brooks and a team of 10 puppeteers, took 80 minutes to complete. The song’s actually not that great, but suffering = art. Just watch the clock.
