Even Shadow Senator Paul Strauss had a car in the parade. And a classic one, to boot.

Here’s a very cool, kind of eerie video that shows what D.C. might look like if it were stripped of all signs of animal life—including humans. Ross Ching, a commercial and music video director, has a series called “Empty America”—produced for Thrash Lab—in which he shoots seemingly thousands of photographs of cityscapes across the country and assembles them in time-laps sequences.

Using special effects, Ching removes all traces of people, moving vehicles and any other distractions, allowing the scenery to take the lead.

It’s engrossing, and oddly soothing on a day when we all need to calm the f down.

Ching has also made similar videos for New York, San Francisco and Seattle.
