FRIDAY

PHOTOGRAPHY: FotoWeekDC kicks off today and runs through November 18, and will feature photography of all types at eight downtown venues. Check all the programs here; the benefit launch party is tomorrow at The Warner Theatre (1299 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) from 8-11 p.m. and costs $55.

STORYTELLING & FILM: DC Shorts and SpeakeasyDC are teaming up to create films based on tales from local storytellers, calling the collaboration “Speakeasy Shorts“. This Friday, first at 7:00 p.m. and and then again at 9:30 p.m. at the U.S. Navy Memorial Heritage Center (701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW), seven storytellers will share “touching, funny, insightful and personal stories about their lives.” Then, the participating filmmakers in this project will have five days to write, shoot, and edit films based on these stories. The films will be screened next Friday, November 16, also at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. $20 for one of the Fridays, or $30 for both Fridays.

TALK SHOW: Associate Editor Benjamin R. Freed will be one of the guests tonight on You, Me, Them, Everybody, a talk show and podcast hosted by Brandon Wetherbee at the Wonderland Ballroom (1101 Kenyon Street NW). Other guests include Brightest Young Things editor Stephanie Breijo, comedian David Tveite and musician Ian Walters. 7:30 p.m. Free, but it’s nice to tip your bartender.

SATURDAY

CRAFT FAIR: The annual Crafty Bastards Arts and Crafts Fair is back for its 9th year, bringing over 140 vendors and their handmade soaps, infinity scarves, cyclist gifts, and other wares to Union Market (309 5th Street NE) this Saturday. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. $5.

MOVEMBERFEST: Movember is the annual tradition when men grow mustaches during the month of November to raise money and awareness for cancers affecting men. In celebration of the ‘stache-growing, the Movember Foundation has teamed up with bars all along H Street NE to offer drink and food specials from 1-9 p.m. today. A wristband is required and will only cost you $12 ahead of time or $15 at the door. Info and tickets are here.

SUBMERGE INTO ARTS: The No Kings Collective, a D.C.-based arts group, kicks off the second annual Submerge arts festival today. Submerge 2012 is an ‘ode to the District,” an art exhibition and creative art space that will pay homage to the town of its creation. Submerge, the exhibition, will be a “group exhibition” uniquely created from a collection of solo-exhibitions. The opening event is tonight at 700 H Street NE from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.; RSVP here. Exhibits will be open from 1-6 p.m. every day through November 18.

SUNDAY

POP-UP PIES: Who doesn’t love pie? Stop by Qualia Coffee (3917 Georgia Avenue NW) today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to try some of the sweet and savory offerings baked up by Whisked!

MUSIC: When Grass Widow came to Comet Ping Pong earlier this year fresh off the release of the simultaneously fragile and razor-sharp Internal Logic, they put on an impressive display of chemistry and musicianship. For anyone who regrets missing them, they’ll be back at Comet (5037 Connecticut Avenue NW) with support from Garland of Hours, Hand Grenade Job and DJ Baby Alcatraz.

VAMOS UNITED: D.C. United takes on the Houston Dynamo tonight in the first of the two-game Eastern Conference finals. Find your local sports bar and cheer them on, or just tune to the NBC Sports Network. Game time is 4 p.m.
