With the Washington Nationals having had a marquee season, just about everyone in town was full of Natitude this year. And now the team hopes that fans will be able to show off their Natitude on their license plates.

Yesterday the team sent out an email asking fans to let them know if they would be interested in branded D.C. and Maryland license plates:

The Nationals need registered drivers to sign up now in order to start our program in the District of Columbia and Maryland. There is no cost for this sign-up stage. Once the program starts and applications are approved there will be a fee (up to $100) to purchase the actual plate. Fans that place their name on this sign-up list will be contacted by the Nationals with more information on how to acquire the Nationals-branded plate.

Does that mean that you’ll be able to land a Nats license plate sometime soon? Probably not. In D.C., for one, legislators introduced a bill last year authorizing the DMV to produce license plates bearing the logos of nine local teams, the Nats included. That bill has yet to pass, though with enough fan support it could well cruise through the city’s legislature.

“Right now we are gauging interest as we need a certain amount of signups before we can present the application to each state for approvals,” said a Nationals spokesperson.

As for Virginia, well, the team didn’t really explain why those license plates might be lagging behind. The commonwealth is known for its huge number of personalized and organizational license plates, after all, with over 200 designs already available to motorists.

As for the cost, well, it would be substantially less than the $100 the Nats said—the council’s bill would set it at $25 per plate, and Maryland’s plan would charge the same for its plates.
