The Death Grips‘ antics have handily overshadowed their music. But what if that wasn’t the case? If the band wouldn’t have signed with Epic Records and shit in the hand that fed, would the Death Grips be known for their uncompromising combination of rap and noise blasts? The band is out on its first tour, and most of the dates are sold out—including tonight’s stop at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Maybe their music does factor into their success. Today’s Song of the Day, “Get Got” from the band’s second album, is a head-nodder for sure. MC Ride’s flow might be overshadowed by Zach Hill’s electronic production and hypnotic drums, but Ride is still a force to be reckoned with.
