Photo by afagenWhatever we might think of the New York Mets, a lot of their fans suffered flooded homes, extensive property damage and extended power outages when Hurricane Sandy pummeled New York City and New Jersey. But the storm relief effort is getting an assist from Nationals infielder Steve Lombardozzi and his father, who decided to collect much-needed supplies after watching the effects of the storm on TV.
Lombardozzi and his dad, Steve Lombardozzi Sr., got a truck from the local moving company JK Moving Services, which donated the vehicle, to haul a shipment of non-perishable food, medical and hygiene supplies and sleeping bags and blankets to the storm-ravaged parts of New York and New Jersey. The Nationals are in on the plan, too, and are collecting items at the team store attached to Nationals Park through Friday. The team is also collecting items at its stores in Dulles and Tysons Corner.
“We’re trying to spread the word out, we’re going to get clothes, food, water, whatever we can get and take it up next week to help the victims,” Lombardozzi Jr. told WTOP.
JK Moving will deliver a 35-foot truck filled with hurricane relief supplies to a food bank in Hillside, N.J. next Tuesday.
Call it Natitude for a cause.
