Think D.C. has had enough of the cupcake? Maybe, but the rest of the country apparently hasn’t—we’re now exporting them to cities clear across the country.
Georgetown Cupcake celebrated the opening of its first Los Angeles outpost over the weekend the way only it could: with a long line of hungry customers outside waiting up to 90 minutes to get a taste of the cupcake that merited its own TV show. This isn’t the first Georgetown Cupcake outside of Georgetown—there are stores in Bethesda, New York and Boston—but it is the first on the West Coast.
Ironically, Georgetown Cupcake is setting up shop not far from Sprinkles, the Beverly Hills-based cupcakery that all but invented the fancy cupcake craze when it launched in 2005. Sprinkles opened a Georgetown location in early 2011. Could this be the start of the Great Cupcake War of 2012?
