>> A federal audit of Metro reported that while the transit system is making progress on passenger and employee safety, such gains are very tenuous. The Washington Post reports that the audit, which was requested by Sen. Barbara Mikulsky (D-Md.), recommends that Metro avoids any “major changes in personnel” or “relaxation in attention to safety.”
>> Michelle Rhee has a book coming out next year, and Loose Lips writes that the former D.C. Public Schools chancellor has some scores to settle. In the book, Rhee takes shots at Mayor Vince Gray, who she says lectured her during an “absurd discussion,” and especially at Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8).
>> Mayor Vince Gray made lots of cyclists happy yesterday when he made an emergency order declaring that drivers who make U-turns through the bike lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue—a frequent cause of bike crashes there—will be fined $100. Eleven of 14 bike crashes on Pennsylvania Avenue were caused by drivers using the cycle track to make U-turns, WAMU reports.
