Up until this year Sky Ferreira was another female singer who was rung through the major label cycle of big promotion that added up to nothing. Her first EP, As If, didn’t get the returns she thought would come her way, but instead of quitting, Ferreira pressed on. All year Ferreira and some of the best producers money could buy have been making her debut album, now set for a 2013 release. But in that time, she has gained huge indie cred by teaming up with Jon Brion and hot-shit songwriter/producer Dev Haynes, who is riding high off his tracks for Solange.

While her album is waiting in the wings, Ferreira released the scattered but serviceable EP Ghost. Each track hits on a different style, but one track in particular, “Everything Is Embarrassing” written by Hynes and ex-Foreign Beggars member Ariel Rechtshaid who has previously worked with Cass McCombs, Usher and Charli XCX t name a few, is an amazing track and a song of the year contender. The hip-hop influenced track is a good look for Ferreira and is an early indication that her debut will be pretty swell.
