>> In not-so-surprising demographic news, a new Census analysis finds that D.C. has gotten whiter, richer and more affluent over the last decade, writes WJLA. Since 2010 42,000 African American residents have moved out, while 47,000 white ones have moved in. Median age stands at 34, a six-month from 2000, and median income increased from $40,000 to $61,000 in that decade.
>> The construction of a needed rail yard where trains would be stored and repaired may delay the start of Metro’s Silver Line, reports the Examiner. Originally expected in late 2013, the Silver Line might be held up by the construction of the West Falls Church rail yard; workers would have to be trained and tested after its completion and before any Silver Line trains can start rolling.
>> When members of D.C. Democratic Party gather next Monday to fill the At-Large seat vacated by D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson, they are likely to chose party chairwoman Anita Bonds, writes the Post. Though she faces competition from two other hopefuls, Bonds’ long tenure in D.C. politics—she was once an aide to then-mayor Marion Barry—will likely carry her to victory in the voting, which is held among the party’s 82 elected members.
Briefly Noted: D.C. man sentenced for robbing his own grandparents … Metro operators suffer from sleep depravation … D.C. gets federal assistance for Hurricane Sandy cleanup … Plenty of trouble at D.C. This Day in DCist: On this day in 2011, Mayor Vince Gray announced that the H Street NE streetcar would not head up Third Street and we welcomed Ben to the fold. In 2010, beer-lovers bid farewell to the Brickskeller and Councilmember Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) warned of the control board bogeyman.
