It’s not a complete sigh of relief, but ‘Skins head coach announced today that quarterback Robert Griffin III only suffered a “mild sprain” to his right knee in yesterday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Though injury caused Griffin to leave the game with just two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter (leading to an overtime comeback led by backup Kirk Cousins), it is far less severe than what many feared.
Furthermore, the Post reports that while Griffin is enduring some “mild swelling” in his knee today, it is possible he could be mended in time for next Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Griffin himself was optimistic last night, telling reporters he did not feel like he had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, which he tore in 2009 while playing at Baylor University. He’s also been quite resilient this year. After suffering a concussion in the ‘Skins’ Week 5 game, Griffin was cleared to play the following week. (In which the ‘Skins beat the Minnesota Vikings 38-26.)
One person who thinks the ‘Skins will have their regular quarterback starting against Cleveland is Robert Griffin Jr., who told the Post that RGII is doing “really good.”
