Only months after a week-old baby panda died at the National Zoo, the pitter patter of a different cub’s paws was heard last night.

The zoo tweeted this morning that Billie Jean, an Andean bear who has been at the zoo since 2008, gave birth overnight, only days after an ultrasound revealed that she was carrying twins. This is the second time she’s had cubs: in 2010, she gave birth to Bernardo and Chaska, the latter of which is still at the zoo. (Bernardo was shipped off to Tulsa in April.)

The zoo doesn’t have any other updates just yet, but it’s got its Andean bear cub cam running. The picture below was snapped by zoo officials shortly after the birth.
