END OF THE WORLD PARTY: Brace yourselves, according to the Mayans it might be your last night on earth to party. So do it epically at Brightest Young Things and All Things Go’s End of the World Party at a newly converted “secure fallout shelter” on H Street (700 H Street NE) tonight. There will be music from RAC, Brett, and Ghost Beach, a mechanical bull, apocalyptic art installations, and “a massive group hug at midnight if we survive.” 8:30 p.m.-2:00 a.m. Tickets: $20 in advance or $25 day of.
END OF THE WORLD MUSIC: The Black Cat’s (1811 14th Street NW) End of The World Party tonight is all about the tunes. Come out for The A.K.’s, The Max Levine Ensemble, The Shirks, and Booze Riot. 9:00 p.m. $10.
END OF THE WORLD FOOD & DRINK: Throw back half-priced apocalyptic draft beers (including Elysian Rapture, Elysian Wasteland,
DC Brau Embers of the Deceased, Sam Adams New World, Rogue Dead Guy, Unibroue La Fin du Monde, and Brooklyn There Will be Black) at Pizza Paradiso’s End of the World Happy Hour at its Dupont and Georgetown locations tonight. They will also be offering “the ultimate hedonistic pizza special,” though no details on what that means.
>> Oyamel (401 7th St NW) is celebrating end-of-the-world-eve by serving up apocalyptic cocktails and special dishes like Carne Apache de Corazon de Venado, a “finely chopped venison heart with red onion, pickled nopal, cilantro and pasilla de Oaxaca Chile oil.”
MOVIE: George Bailey watches his life pass before his eyes in the heartwarming classic, It’s a Wonderful Life at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike Arlington VA) tonight. This festive event will also include holiday music and will benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Wear your best holiday costume (Santa, Mrs. Claus, reindeer, or a character from It’s a Wonderful Life) or ugly Christmas sweater and receive 4 free movie passes for a future show at the Drafthouse. 7:15-9:30 p.m. $10. (A second screening will be held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.)
SANDY HOOK BENEFIT: A benefit for the Sandy Hook Elementary community is being held at the Science Club (1136 19th Street NW) this evening. “All proceeds will benefit the Newtown Memorial Fund, Newtown Youth and Family Services and the United Way of Western Connecticut, and will support the children, parents and community of Newton, Connecticut as they heal and rebuild.” 5:00-7:30 p.m. $10 donation gets you a complimentary drink.
DANCE: Os Kurduristas, a dance group from Angola, are offering a dance workshop and demonstration, followed by a dance battle with Lionz of Zion and Urban Artistry, at Tropicalia (2001 14th Street NW) this evening. 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Free.
SATURDAY
ONESIE ICE-SKATING PARTY: You survived the end of the world celebrations, so find your favorite onesie and head down to the Pentagon Row ice-skating rink (1201 South Joyce Street, Arlington) for a Onesie Ice-Skating Party. Things kick off at 7 p.m., and it’ll cost you $8 to get on the ice.
HOLIDAY HIP-HOP: “Axel F” is getting into the spirit of the season and will be hosting its “Ultimate Stocking Stuffer Holiday Party!” at Liv (2011 11th Street NW). As usual, DJs Jahsonic, Adrian Loving and Stylus will be bringing the gifts of musical funkiness produced between 1977 and 1987. Admission $5. 10 p.m.
