Welcome to 2013! There aren’t many shows this week—clubs are cleaning up from their New Year’s celebrations, I guess—so I am going to highlight some upcoming albums to get everyone pumped for the year. Yo La Tengo have been around for almost 30 years and this month they will release their 13th album, Fade. The album follows 2009’s Popular Songs, with the band smoothing out the edges of their sound and condensing some of the long tracks for which they are known. Today’s Song of the Day is the first track on Fade and at nearly seven minutes it is the longest track on the album. “Ohm” doesn’t break any molds but it might be one their most enjoyable songs since “Sugarcube;” it is an instant classic.
