Michael Steven Poe, the 23-year-old Maryland man who was reported missing after spending New Year’s Eve with friends in Adams Morgan, was found dead yesterday on the 1800 block of Biltmore Street NW.

According to MPD spokesman Araz Alali, Poe’s body was found at 10:47 p.m. last night in a ventilation shaft. He was already dead when police found him, and Alali said that an investigation into the cause of his death was ongoing.

WTOP reports that police investigators suspect that he fell down the ventilation shaft after attending a party on from the rooftop of The Haddington, the building where his body was found. (They are still looking into whether it was an accident or not.) Prior to that, he had spent the night with friends at Shenanigans Bar, after which they became separated. He was last heard from on January 1 at 2:30 a.m.

Correction: Due to a reporting error, this article originally stated there was a party on the rooftop of The Haddington, an apartment building at 1840 Biltmore Street NW. A resident of the building says there was no such party, but that people had been on the roof of an adjacent building and had crossed over to The Haddington.
