TUESDAY

Jucifer is one of those few bands that might actually rival Dinosaur Jr. for loudest band ever, and we have no idea how the hell the audience at the Black Cat Backstage is going to handle the sludge metal duo’s aural assault. But as we stressed in yesterday’s song of the day, it’ll be worth the eardrum damage; they’re pretty good. Also, ya know, bring earplugs. LTW opens. $12, 8:00 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

The song “Bars on Me” is a good example of rapper Chris Webby’s lyricism, “Up in Webby’s world/you cannot reach it with a road map.” He then lists a variety of prescription drugs and much like other rappers he talks about the amount of ladies he has coming his way. But most other rappers probably aren’t using a loop that sounds like it came out of a Bollywood movie. He’ll be at the Howard Theatre tonight with Cheyne & Matthew Thorson, Phil Da Future and KAM. $15 in advance/$20 day of show, 8:00 p.m.

THURSDAY

Macy Gray has been the punchline of many a joke since her emergence with “I Try” on the radio due to her unique presence and voice. Still, she was a refreshingly unprocessed sound in an often cookie cutter landscape and tonight she’ll be at the Howard Theatre on a collaborative tour with David Murray’s Big Band. The jazz musician rearranged many of Gray’s songs and wrote new material specifically for this tour. It’s a new dynamic that may actually work better than Gray’s pop recordings. $30 in advance/$35 day of show, 8:00 p.m.

FRIDAY

Bad Friend Records is a project that Tereu Tereu’s Ryan Little and Jukebox the Ghost’s Tommy Siegel started roughly a year ago. We actually did a Three Stars interview awhile ago with Raw Feels (who put out one of the first Bad Friends releases), and the duo of Siegel and Little even raised enough money via Kickstarter project to put out a long forgotten recording by Travis Morrison Hellfighters. Bad Friends Records are celebrating their first year of wax pressing with a Birthday Bash at U Street Music Hall which will include a solo set from Siegel, Tereu Tereu, Laughing Man and Gordon Withers, who you may recognize from bands like Office of Future Plans and releases like Jawbox on Cello. $10, 7:00 p.m.

SATURDAY

We’ve interviewed both the anthemic Ugly Purple Sweater and the punk-minded, folk-spirited Kingsley Flood over the past few years and the two are celebrating their album releases together at the Black Cat. At five and six members respectively, it’s fair to expect a night of soaring dynamics and impressive arrangements. $12, 8:30 p.m.

>> Velvet Lounge: Lenorable, Pleasure Curses, Dr. Neanderthal. $8, 9:30 p.m.

SUNDAY

Galaxy Hut has a fantastic double bill for us. Garland of Hours is fueled by the stellar playing of Amy Domingues, whose haunting cello and keyboard compositions and stop-in-your-tracks voice certainly rock but add tinges of Celtic folk. Soccer Team recordings are fairly minimalist in nature, but that highlights the raw and intimate nature of Melissa Quinley and Ryan Nelson’s songs. Missing this would be to your detriment. $5, 9:00 p.m.

>> Black Cat: Bear in Heaven, Hooray for Earth
. $15, 8:00 p.m.
