Bryce Harper is probably signing the papers on a lucrative Eggo endorsement today, following his admission last on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he enjoys a plate of the frozen waffles before each game. Harper, if you’ll forgive the haircut, appeared on ABC’s late-night show to reflect on his rookie season and his preparations for 2013.
Jimmy Kimmel began the interview, obviously, with yet another mention of the Nationals outfielder’s tireless meme of “That’s a clown question, bro?” Kimmel played Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) refrain of the phrase, to which Harper finally responded.
“I don’t know if I’m a politician I’d use that, but I guess he’s a big fan,” Harper, a Las Vegas native, said. Kimmel, who also hails from Las Vegas, joked with Harper about growing up in Sin City, and how tourists are often confused that behind the glitzy towers of the Strip lies an actual city. Harper said he once convinced someone that he grew up living in the pirate ship outside Treasure Island and swimming in the fountains at Caesar’s Palace.
The interview also recalled Harper’s Major League Baseball debut, for which he flew out to meet the Nationals in Los Angeles, where in his first big-league at bat, Harper got a fleshy salute from a spectator in the front row at Dodger Stadium. Harper also talked about his pre-game rituals. Among his habits: Taking seven showers between his arrival at the stadium and the first pitch, eating peanut butter and honey sandwiches and downing a serving of Eggo waffles.
