There must be something in the water in Atlanta, GA that makes a great garage rock band. From The Black Lips to Gentleman Jesse, Atlanta’s scene is stacked with great bands armed with the Nuggets box set that both look back while constantly charging forward. Another band in the scene, Gringo Star, is coming back to D.C. tonight for a show at the Black Cat. Gringo Star fits squarely between the Black Lip’s prankster garage rock and the hooky sweetness of Gentleman Jessie, and today’s song of the day from their new 7″, “Going Way Out,” is a perfect encapsulation of the band. The mid-tempo song is almost feels like a tripped out slow dance for a super cool homecoming.

Gringo Star plays tonight with Midnight Spin and America Hearts at the Black Cat. Tickets are $12.
