The Soft Moon may be a band, but on record Luis Vasquez handles all aspects of the music. His dark brooding self-titled debut, released in 2010, was a mix of bedroom atmospherics and 80s goth/industrial. Last year’s album Z’s added some brightness to the mix, but only subtle cracks of sunlight ever touch Vasquez’s murky music. Today’s song of the day, “Insides,” is a track filled with crashing drums and a Peter Hook bass. The vocals are buried in the mix, but come off as a cross between Ian Curtis and Robert Smith.
The Soft Moon play with Majical Cloudz on Sunday at the Black Cat. Tickets are $12.
