Red Baraat, the New York global-inspired nine-piece, is one of the most electric live bands you will ever see. Led by Indian drummer Sunny Jain, the band takes influence from traditional Punjabi music and Bhangra, mixing it with funk, Latin and sometimes a little go-go. The band’s first album Chaal Baby tore up the Wolrd Music Charts, and now the band is at it again with their recently released sophomore record Shruggy Ji. Fresh off an Inaugural Ball gig, the band is playing the 9:30 Club tonight and is sure to bring the fire. Today’s song of the day is the title track from their new record, “Shruggy Ji.” The track is a call to arms, complete with blaring horn solos, and some fun rapping sometimes resembling David Bryne’s more world-centric releases. The track like the album was very inspired by D.C.’s go-go scene.

Red Baraat play an early show (6 PM Doors) tonight at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are $20.
