The mystery of who was responsible for Chandra Levy’s death may be opened up to debate once again.

The AP reports that a D.C. judge has been holding a series of quiet hearings related to the case in recent weeks, raising questions as to the possibility of another trial following the 2010 conviction of Ingmar Guandique for her 2002 killing. During Guandique’s initial trial, prosecutors admitted that they had no evidence directly linking him to Levy’s death, though he had been found guilty of a string of attacks on joggers in Rock Creek Park.

Neither prosecutors nor defense attorneys are commenting on what the hearings have been about, and news organizations have petitioned that they be allowed to attend the sessions. The next hearing is scheduled for February 7.

Clarification: We originally referred to the hearings as “secret,” but they were publicly listed on the court’s docket. Still, a person with knowledge of the situation said that the hearings were conducted from the bench, thus only allowing the judge, prosecutors and defense team to hear what was happening.
