This weekend there are two must see shows in D.C. and they both happen to be at the U Street Music Hall, so I decided to do not one but two songs for today.
First up, half-local duo Benoit and Sergio make a special live appearance tonight at the club as part of the club’s standing Red Friday night. Benjamin Myers, or the Sergio of the duo, is originally from D.C. but moved to Europe to start the group with Benoit Simon. The band make dance music indebted to classic groups like New Order and their most obvious influence is Homework-era Daft Punk. Today’s Song of the Day, “New Ships,” from last year’s incredible EP of the same name takes Daft Punk’s blueprint and makes an ear-worm worthy track.
Benoit and Sergio play live with Solomon Sanchez and Brian Billion tonight at the U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $10 or free before 12 PM (21+ only).
In my songs of the year post from just a month ago, I discussed how great it would be if Baauer was played every night at U Street Music Hall—because his tracks would knock your drinks off the bar. Well, Baauer is coming to U Street this Sunday and is sure to bring the ruckus. As part of the Big League Tour with hip-hop producer Just Blaze (who unfortunately will not be part of the show at U Street), Baauer will be making asses and walls shake. Today’s second Song of the Day is the collaborative track between Baauer and Blaze, “Higher,” featuring vocal snippets from none other than Jay-Z. The track is an all-out banger, and we can only hope that Baauer will drop it in his set.
Baauer plays with Obeyah and Nature Rage this Sunday at U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $12.
