Ty SegallWEDNESDAY
Emcee Prodigy (not to be confused with The Prodigy, the British electronic group) spent years as one of the most skillful wordsmiths around with Mobb Deep and he will be showcasing his skills at the Howard Theatre tonight. $18 in advance/$20 day of show, 8:00 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: Reel Big Fish, The Pilfers, Dan Potthast from mu330. $25, 7:00 p.m.
THURSDAY
In addition to putting out two of my favorite albums last year (I didn’t put Slaughterhouse on that list, but it belongs there) Ty Segall has been constantly touring. Even when fights don’t break out and Segall doesn’t stage dive (or encourage others to crowd surf), the sheer energy that the band emits is contagious and the Black Cat could get raucous…at least between the slow acoustic numbers. Get there early for Ex-Cult and Roomrunner. Sold Out, 8:00 p.m.
>> DAR Constitution Hall: Fun. $34, 8:00 p.m.
FRIDAY
The Vaccines is the new project from Jay Jay Pistolet’s Justin Hayward-Young and his ability to write soaring power pop songs is only overshadowed by the fact that the band is British. Sometimes that’s important, guys. San Cisco opens. $25, 8:00 p.m.
>> DC9: Brett (formerly The Dance Party), Misun , People in Cars. $10, 9:00 p.m.
SATURDAY
Sockets Records, one of the most visible names over the past five years in experimental pop, says goodbye tonight with one final showcase. This showcase also marks the end of the ever-mutating but always spectacular Hume who will be playing along with Deleted Scenes, Imperial China and Buildings. $12 in advance/$15 day of show, 8:00 p.m.
>> DC9: Buke and Gase, Aleuchatistas, Oh So Peligroso. $10, 9:00 p.m.
SUNDAY
The love that bright, happy multi-instrumentalist Kishi Bashi has received from the likes of NPR Music has broadened his audience as of late. He’ll be performing some of those ethereal pop gems at the 9:30 Club. Plume Giant opens. $20, 7:00 p.m.
