BEER AND OYSTERS: Two Virginia companies—War Shore Oyster Company and Port City Brewing Company—team up to serve half-shells and tasty ales tonight at Urbana Restaurant and Wine Bar (2121 P Street NW). The freshly shucked Chesapeake Bay oysters are 50 cents a specimen, while beer pours for $4 a pint. And don’t let the waiter toss your shells away; at the end of the night, the shells will be collected for the Oyster Recovery Partnership which repopulates the Chesapeake’s shellfish populations. COGNAC: Aimez-vous boire d’un verre ballon? Pierre Ferrand, a leading producer of small-batch cognacs, hosts a tasting tonight at Alliance Française-Dupont (2142 Wyoming Avenue NW). Pierre Ferrand’s education director, Guillaume Lamy, leads the tasting. Tickets $45, $35 for members.

PARTY: The Kid Congo Powers Hour returns to the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) with the veteran guitarist hosting performances by Alex Minoff, the Ar-Kaics (comprised of members of The Shirks and Chain and the Gang), and DJ sets by Baby Alcatraz and Cocobuttons. Begins 9 p.m. $12.

FUNNY GUY: Tom Wolfe isn’t the only author with a new, madcap novel about South Florida. The humorist Dave Barry reads from his latest book, Insane City, at Politics & Prose (5015 Connecticut Avenue NW). Begins 7 p.m. $5.

GOODBYE: Sockets Records, the vinyl record label launched by Sean Peoples, is shutting down for good after its final showcase at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW). Sockets veterans Hume, Deleted Scenes, Imperial China, and Buildings are slated to play. Begins 9 p.m. $15.

FILM: Looking to win your local Oscar pool? Seeing the all the feature-length nominees is tough enough, but when the hell do non-industry types get a chance to see the short films? Right now. Landmark E Street Cinema (555 11th Street NW) plays the short films nominated for the Academy Awards for Animated Short Film and Live Action Short Film this weekend. Tickets $11. FUNDRAISER: Artists from around the mid-Atlantic band together to raise money for the continued recovery from Superstorm Sandy. Musicians, photographers, skaters, and others auction off their work to raise money for RebuildRecover, which is working to restore the Jersey Shore from last October’s catastrophic storm. MUSIC: Kishi Bashi, the one-man band who sings, plays violin, beat-boxes, and live loops his music produced some of NPR All Songs Considered’s favorite music of 2012. See him perform this Sunday at the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW). Begins 7 p.m. $20.

SUPER BOWL, IN ADAMS MORGAN: Watch football and stuff your face at Jack Rose Dining Saloon (2007 18th Street NW). As two teams you probably don’t care about smash each other around for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Jack Rose’s Super Bowl party will serve up unlimited corn bread, chili, chicken wings, and sausage-and-pepper sandwiches, while serving up $5 beers, whiskeys, and punches. Begins 6 p.m.

SUPER BOWL, IN ARLINGTON: Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse shows the big game on its big screen. Admission is free, food and drinks are extra. Doors open 4:30 p.m.
