Coheed and Cambria never fit into the post-hardcore scene. The band had sharp hooks and loud music that made mosh pits go wild, but unlike their peers who wanted to be the second coming of Fugazi, Coheed always wanted to be Rush or Yes, with albums that fit into a cosmic journey that even the liner notes couldn’t explain. The band has had ups and well-documented downs, but has prevailed, releasing their seventh album The Aftermath: Decension today. The record follows their 2012 release The Aftermath: Ascension and completes the band’s double album plan. The band played their first of two sold-out shows at the 9:30 Club, and tonight plays another. Today’s song of the day is a classic cut from the band’s second album In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 “Blood Red Summer.” The album turns ten this year, and “Blood Red Summer” remains one of the band’s most beloved songs.
Coheed and Cambria play tonight with Between the Buried and Me and Russian Circles at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are sold out.
