>> Jeff Thompson, a major donor to D.C. politicians who until last year held a $350 million Medicaid contract, and David Wilmot, the city government’s top lobbyist, have extensive financial ties, Washington City Paper reports. According to checks and other documents found by Loose Lips, Thompson routed money through Wilmot’s bank accounts, which was in turn distributed to various officials, including former Ward 8 Councilmember Sandy Allen, and a large group of political consultants and other associates.
>> Family Matters of Greater Washington, a social services organization, announced yesterday it received a $28 million bequest from Peter Herman, a reclusive railroad heir who despite living in the Watergate for four decades (and inheriting boatloads of cash), was not a fixture in D.C.’s elite social scene. Herman, who died last November at 100, also left $15 million to the Kennedy Center, The Washington Post reports.
>> Arlington County Police have found a nice little revenue stream in documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act, WAMU reports, if police choose to release documents at all. Until recently, mugshots cost $24, and a summary of one police report cost more than $30, though the report itself remains unavailable.
