Truth: Top Gun is the perfect movie. A star cast—Tom Cruise (pre-crazy), Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, and Anthony Edwards—a solid Kenny Loggins theme song (“Danger Zone”), timeless lines (“Son, your ego is writing checks your body can’t cash”) and a perfect story of good guys versus bad, set against the backdrop of the Cold War. The drama…the action…the romance…the loss…the F-14 Tomcats! (Sadly, director Tony Scott killed himself last year.)

So what could make the perfect movie even perfecter? To see it in IMAX 3D, of course. Top Gun: An IMAX 3D Experience opens tonight at area theaters; in D.C., Georgetown will be the only theater showing the movie. Local showtimes are here. The movie only runs until February 14, which means that it’s perfectly appropriate to make the movie part of your Valentine’s Day plans. Trust me—that special someone will love you even more for it. (Or at least understand.)
