FUNK: The New Orleans bluesman Dr. John dressed in his best George Clinton costume at the Grammys last night, but there’s no mistaking for the real thing. The 72-year-old (72!) Clinton, backed by Parliament Funkadelic, plays tonight at the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) at 7 p.m. Tickets $45.

BOOZY BENEFIT: Fundraisers are good. Fundraisers with beer? Even better. Birch & Barley (1337 14th Street NW) hosts a beer dinner tonight to raise money for the youth writing workshop 826DC. Chef Kyle Bailey and beer guru Greg Engert are putting up a menu of five dishes and nine beers. Tickets $150.

MUSIC: Holopaw, an experimental rock group out of Florida, headlines tonight at Comet Ping Pong (5037 Connecticut Avenue NW). Also playing are local fuzzy dream-poppers The Sea Life, and Bella Russia, who are one of DCist’s bands to watch in 2013. Begins 10 p.m., admission $10.

Stay tuned later this week for the Weekly Music Agenda, This Week in Jazz, This Week in Hip-Hop, and Popcorn and Candy.
