The Washington Nationals are sending all five of their Racing Presidents on a road trip starting Friday. Destination? Where else but the national monument from which 80 percent of the group is sourced.

“For the first time ever, the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents—George, Tom, Abe, Teddy and the newest member, Bill—will celebrate Presidents Day from America’s definitive presidential landmark when they visit Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota,” a team press release reads.

“Bill,” by the way, refers to the new addition to the Nationals’ fourth-inning sideshow, an unreasonably thin mascot version of President William Howard Taft. But as the road trip is being advertised as a “race” between Roosevelt and Taft, perhaps some credit is due to the Nationals’ marketing department for calling it “Bill and Ted’s Executive Adventure.” (Never mind the fact that of the group of Racing Presidents, Jefferson is the real Wyld Stallyn.)

Taft, of course, is not featured on Mount Rushmore, but the Nationals are also trying to gin up some kind of rivalry between their cartoon versions of the 26th and 27th presidents by asking fans to vote, via Twitter, on who should win. (Relevant hastags are #VoteTeddy and #VoteBill.) Of course, this scripted rivalry sounds like a preview for the 2013 season of presidents races, which are in desperate need of a rewrite after seven years of Teddy always losing turned into two weeks of Teddy always winning at the end of the 2012 season.
