>> OkayAfrica returns to Tropicalia for a night of tunes from and inspired by the continent. Supplying the tunes will be DJs Jahsonic, Underdog, i:Wah and Clark. $5 after 10 p.m. 9 p.m.

Thursday:
>> Soul rocker Cody ChesnuTT received sizable attention for his work with The Roots on “The Seed 2.0” a few years back and has built a strong following for his solo career. He’ll be at The Hamilton with Julia Nixon. $17. 7:30 p.m.

>> Jesse Boykins III represents the next wave of soul music. Ever the wordsmith, Boykins is also adept at riding electronic tunes to create a sound singers will be attempting to pull off in the immediate future. He’ll be at Liv for a Valentine’s Day show. $25 for individuals / $40 for couples in advance. 9 p.m.

Friday:
>> R&B crooner and Prince George’s County native Kenny Lattimore will be at the Howard Theatre in support of his newest album, Back 2 Cool. $35 in advance / $40 at the door. 8 p.m.

>> Ultra Naté comes down from Baltimore for a joint “Deep Sugar” and “Red Fridays” at U Street Music Hall. The house music vocalist will be joined by Lisa Moody and Chris Burns. $10. 10 p.m.

Saturday:
>> Having gained a great deal of notoriety in the 1990s with British acid jazzers Incognito, Maysa is a proven commodity. The Baltimore native and “Deep Waters” vocalist will be at the Howard Theatre. $45 in advance / $50 at the door. 8 p.m.

Sunday:
>> This past week marked both the birthday and anniversary of the death of producer/rapper James “Jay Dee/J Dilla” Yancey. As has become customary around this time of year, artists will be paying tribute to his music. This year, the “DC Loves Dilla” show at the U Street Music Hall will feature Dilla friend Waajeed and DJs Roddy Rod, 2-Tone Jones, Quartermaine, Book, Marshall Law, Minus 9, Harvey Dent and R.B.I. $10. 9 p.m.
