WE WANT ONE TOO

WE WANT ONE TOO

We may be Boomtown, but even we recognize that sometimes (OK, often) other cities get the jump on great ideas. And let’s be honest—just like everyone wants to cop our Capital Bikeshare system, we shouldn’t be above shamelessly ripping off the best and the brightest things that other cities do.

Case and point: Boston’s City Hall to Go, a truck that travels throughout the city’s neighborhoods and offer residents a handy and convenient way to apply for permits and otherwise do the things that sometimes take a daylong trip to a multitude of municipal offices. This isn’t to say that D.C. hasn’t improved many of its most basic functions—the DMV is much better than a decade ago, for one—but many of those very functions take time and travel.

D.C. has implemented somewhat similar ideas over the years, from Department of Health vehicles that travel around the city providing vital services to the D.C. Lottery truck. Yes, even the D.C. Lottery has found an even more convenient to separate fools and their money.

So let’s give a tip of the hat to Mayor Tom Menino and steal his idea. We could even come up with a better name for it: Wilson Building on Wheels.
