What has the world come to when you’ve got cameras watching cameras?
Well, it seems to be working for Prince George’s County, where WTOP reports that no speed cameras have been attacked or vandalized since police installed a number of security cameras to watch them last September. Prior to that, some of the 72 cameras had been knocked over, shot at and even set on fire.
Prince George’s County isn’t the only place where the cameras have been vandalized by angry motorists. Last September, seven speed cameras in Baltimore County were spray-painted over, while in October someone in Olney knocked a camera over with their car. In November, it was two cameras in Silver Spring that were purposely felled by a driver.
D.C., which has a large network of speed cameras, hasn’t seen much similar vandalism, though last year someone spray-painted warnings on trees and poles to warn drivers of two cleverly hidden speed cameras.
