French Montana has been in the game since 2002 when he started making mixtapes under the Cocaine City name. He gained underground cred but never broke into the mainstream until 2011, when he signed a deal with both Bad Boy and Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group. Montana’s debut, Excuse My French, was originally slated for a 2012 release, but is now reportedly coming out in May. Montana is on a small club tour to promote the record. Today’s Song of the Day is his single from that upcoming release, “Pop That.” The track featuring Lil Wayne, Drake and his label boss Rick Ross was everywhere last summer. While he might not have his back-up tonight, it’s highly likely that he’ll still drop it into his setlist.

French Montana plays tonight with Chinx Drugs, Cheyne and DJ Mathias at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $22.
