>> D.C. is fighting to keep the FBI within city limits, but elected officials learned yesterday that a study on the actual financial benefit of having the agency in town has yet to be started, reports the Post. D.C. CFO Natwar Gandhi said that a cost-benefit analysis on having (or getting rid of) the FBI HQ would soon be started and completed in 60 days. D.C. has offered up Poplar Point for a new HQ, but jurisdictions in both Maryland and Virginia are fighting to get the FBI after it leaves the J. Edgar Hoover Building on Pennsylvania Avenue.

>> Maryland legislators are again considering a law that would allow undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses, writes WTOP. Supporters say that it would make roads safer, while opponents argue that it would only make the state a magnet for more undocumented immigrants. Under the provisions of the bill, the licenses could not be used for federal purposes, such as getting on a plane.

>> I-66 is slow, but it’ll soon be a little smarter. WJLA reports that Virginia will start working on upgrades along the freeway, including electronic lane signs that tell motorists if there are accidents ahead or when exactly they have to merge. New signs will also warn drivers of traffic backups, allowing them to get off of the freeway and on to side roads for the rest of their commute.

Briefly Noted: Fairfax County residents could see tax hikes … Maryland not performing legally required background checks at many daycare centers … Wells wants D.C. Inspector General to investigate claims of sexual harassment at D.C. Fire Fighter Academy … CSI: D.C. not doing too well … Marylanders don’t want to pay more taxes to deal with traffic congestion problems … D.C. Water rates set to rise in coming years.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2012, a University of Virginia football player joined a hunger strike for higher wages for campus workers and D.C. councilmembers got a family cell phone plan. In 2011, a video showed the terrifying collapse of an escalator at L’Enfant Plaza.
