>> Avery*Sunshine is increasing her profile on the R&B scene and returning to D.C. to headline a show at the Howard Theatre that will also have Ayanna Gregory on the bill. $20 in advance / $23 at the door. 8 p.m.

Thursday:
>> Having made his name producing Cypress Hill’s early work, DJ Muggs has expanded his repertoire to rock-rap mash-ups on his satellite radio show. He’ll be at the U Street Music Hall. He’ll be joined by Brown & Gammon. $15-$17. 10 p.m.

Friday:
>> Over a decade ago, “Standing in the Shadows of Motown” documentary highlighted the integral role the Funk Brothers played as the backing band for Motown’s big hits in the 1960s. Tonight at the Howard Theatre, Peabo Bryson, Leela James and bassist James Jamerson, Jr. will pay homage to the spirit and talent that birthed those classic tunes. $35 in advance / $40 at the door. 8 p.m.

>> Machine Gun Kelly, or MGK for short, is one of the latest big namea to come out of Diddy’s Bad Boy camp. Having released his debut album, Lace Up, late last year, MGK is a newcomer but he has a rabid fan base. He’ll be at the Fillmore for this D.C.-area show. $22.50. 8 p.m.

>> Two D.C. emcees, Konshens and Uptown XO, are going to be performing at Heaven & Hell. $10. 8 p.m.
