WEDNESDAY

Veronica Falls had one of the year’s early Songs of the Day and has won over our associate editor with their pretty harmonies and obvious debt to Black Tambourine. If you suspect that will win you over as well (and why wouldn’t it?), they’ll be at the Black Cat tonight. We’re assuming that this supposed eight inches of snow isn’t ACTUALLY gonna happen but we’ll update you if it does, of course. Cold Showers and Juan Wauters open. $13 in advance/$15 day of show, 8:00 p.m.

>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Ex Cops, GEMS, Dead Professional. $10, 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY

The Postelles are one of these New York City bands that live on the road with modest success and seem to come through D.C. once every two or three months. But they’re a fun bunch of jangly pop songs that stay happily in major keys and borrow a lot from the early days of rock and roll so we’re never sad to see them return. Their openers for this early show at U Street Music Hall are Ambassadors and Arkells…which may be the best band name of all time. (Say it out loud). $15, 6:00 p.m.

FRIDAY

The Friday Night Eclectic series at the Strathmore Mansion has played host to several varied local heavy hitters, but we’re particularly excited about this week’s edition with Heavy Breathing, which is the band that we most regret leaving off our Best Up and Coming Bands (although they’ve been playing around for awhile with other bands). Even without the incredible light show, their live performances are powerful.

>> Black Cat: Kepone (reunion show!), Office of Future Plans, Daria. $12, 9:00 p.m.

>> Comet Ping Pong: Drop Electric, Atlas at Last, Hurlebaus. $10, 10:00 p.m.

>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Shark Week, Dance for the Dying, The Flying Eyes, Joy Buttons. $10, 8:00 p.m.

SATURDAY

British act Django Django make no sounds that sound like they belong in a Tarantino movie (unless you’re stretching your imagination) but instead bring a synth-driven dance party to the 9:30 Club. Night Moves opens. $20, 10:00 p.m.

SUNDAY

Usually the Pogues fill the role of punk band with Irish roots that plays D.C. around St. Patrick’s Day, but this year, Dropkick Murphys has taken up the torch. Unsurprisingly, this show at the 9:30 Club, like every other show they’ve done in the recent past here, has sold out rather quickly, but check Craigslist for your options. 6:30 p.m.

>> DC9: Upforth, Lady Cop, Love Rub and the Chocolate Delight. $8, 6:30 p.m.
