The annual Capital Pride Parade will take place this year on June 8, but instead of ending near Thomas Circle as it has in years past, it will end at 14th and S Streets NW.
Borderstan included a brief mention of the parade’s new route in a separate item yesterday morning, and the map on the parade’s website confirms the new route.
The parade will start at P and 22nd Streets and proceed around Dupont Circle and along New Hampshire Avenue and 17th Street as usual, but once it passes the Whole Foods on P Street it will turn left, instead of right, and head north up 14th Street. The parade will officially end on S Street, but 14th Street will be closed up to U Street.
On its website, organizers gave reason for the change: “We are excited to bring the parade to the business along 14th Street and engage the expanding LGBTA community.” Pedro Ribeiro, Mayor Vince Gray’s spokesman, said the parade route had been granted conditional approval “pending further logistical coordination of the dispersal area with MPD and [the] community.”
