BURLESQUE: Brown Girls Burlesque takes it off for their She’s A-Shake-A-Ning! show at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) show tonight. 9:00 p.m. $15 in advance, $18 day of.
KARATE KID AND COMEDY: The Karate Kid is a 1980s classic, and just like most 1980 classic, it’s full of eye-rolling moments just waiting snark and sarcasm. Well, you’ll get those today at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington), where the cast of the Raspberry Brothers will be making fun of the movie as it plays. 7 p.m. $15.
CELEBRATE FRANCE’S FORMER EMPIRE: Perhaps the most eagerly-anticipated event during the Month of Francophonie, the Grande Fête is an invitation to travel the continents of the world in one night: each year, more than 35 embassies unite to present their culture and cuisine, accompanied by the sounds of a special concert by an artist from the French-speaking world. At the French Embassy (4101 Reservoir Road NW), 7:00 p.m. $60.
SATURDAY
MARCH MADNESS: Head to Jack Rose’s (2007 18th Street NW) Courtside Happy Hour this Saturday to watch the Sweet 16 round of March Madness while eating free food (Buffalo hot wings, chilaquiles, cheese tots, pork and beans) and pairing it with $5 punch, pints, and whiskey.
STUDENT FILMS: Head to George Washington University (800 21st St NW) tonight for the best films from college students on the East Coast. 6:00 p.m. A screening of the selections will set you back $5, or throw in dinner and and screening for $9.99. Hollywood producers Andy Horwitz and Dan Wiedenhaupt will be on hand.
JAZZ: The Third Annual Washington Women in Jazz Festival continues throughout the weekend, so check the full schedule of events here.

SUNDAY
BEER: Enjoy unlimited tastings from dozens of craft breweries at the DC Beer Festival at Nationals Park this Weekend. The Saturday sessions have sold out, but tickets are still available for the Sunday slots: 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. Get your tickets in advance, none will be sold at the door.
GRUNGE GOTH: IO ECHO, the duo of Ionna Gika and Leopold Ross, create what some are calling “grunge goth.” Heavily inspired by bands like Nine Inch Nails and their current tourmates Garbage, the band is on the cusp of breaking through. Come early and see them at Fillmore Silver Spring. 8:00 p.m. $35.
