>> All that panic and preparation for the Snowquester that wasn’t, and now we actually get snow—in spring. >> Arlington knows how to roll when it comes to its bus shelters, it seems. The Post reports that commuters are questioning the $1 million price tag of a bus shelter at Columbia Pike and Walter Reed Drive. While the shelter—which opened two weeks ago—is located at a “super stop” that will be able to accommodate buses and a planned streetcar, people using it expressed surprise over the hefty price tag. More of the super stops are planned, though Arlington will be managing the construction alone, allowing it to bring down costs.
>> The first segment of the Silver Line is expected to start running later this year, but the Examiner reports that a rail yard that is critical to the line’s use remains behind schedule. Contractors say that the West Falls Church rail yard won’t be finished until January 2014, after the estimated date that the Silver Line is supposed to start running. Officials with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority are pushing to have the yard built on time, but say that the Silver Line could run even if the yard isn’t completely finished.
