Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts did something odd the other day. He paid for his morning Starbucks run with cash, not plastic. Why? Well, it would a appear that not even the nation’s highest-ranking jurist is immune from having his credit card numbers ripped off.

The Washington Post reports that Roberts, who lives in suburban Maryland, used hard currency to buy his coffee Tuesday morning before heading to work after he had to cancel his credit cards when a fraudster got ahold of the numbers. (And he needed the coffee on an especially busy day at the court.) Roberts shared the reason why with his barista, who in turn, apparently shared it with Al Kamen.

And yesterday, Roberts was still grousing about having to pay cash. The Huffington Post overheard him at a barber’s shop saying the credit card fraud was traced to Kentucky.
