>> The D.C. government has already taken some $1.7 million from tax refunds to cover the cost of everything from overdue child support payments and unpaid parking tickets, reports the Examiner. Earlier this year D.C. announced that any resident with unpaid fines or fees could see what the owe simply subtracted from any expected tax refunds.
>> West Virginia and Delaware be warned: Maryland wants its millions back. The Post reports that Maryland is aiming to reclaim millions of dollars that go to out-of-state casinos, and the state will take a big step in that direction next week when a casino south of Baltimore will start offering 24-hour table games. The arms race between a number of Mid-Atlantic states has been heating up over the years, and Maryland has recently expanded gambling sites and allowed table games to stay competitive.
>> D.C. allows it, and so does Maryland. Could Virginia be next? WTOP reports that a new poll has found that opinion on same-sex marriage is evenly split in the Old Dominion, with 45 percent of respondents supporting legalizing it and 46 percent opposing. In 2006, Virginia voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
