Perhaps it’s time that President Obama finds himself a new athletic pursuit. At the White House Easter Egg Roll this morning, Obama, who tries to find every excuse he can to recall his days as a forward for the basketball team at the Punahou School in Honolulu, stepped up to the free-throw line and tried to show off.

Of 22 shots taken, Obama clanked or whiffed it on 20. That’s right. Our president, who relaxes before elections or major congressional action on important legislation with early-morning basketball games, went 2-22 from the foul line. And in front of a bunch of kids and NBA players, no less.

Among the celebrity guests at the Easter Egg Roll were Washington Wizards players John Wall, Bradley Beal, Emeka Okafor, and Nenê Hilario, who looked on as the president embarrassed himself free-throw line. Okafor, in fact, is one of the NBA’s worst free-throw takers, making just 57.1 percent of his shots in his debut season with the Wizards. (The league average usually hovers around 75 percent, while the game’s elite shooters can clear 90 percent.) By comparison, Obama shot for a measly 9.1 percent.

The pool report is no less forgiving:

POTUS at basketball court, with kids and Washington Wizards (don’t have all names but John Wall included—will get details for final wrap)

POTUS stepped to free throw line and kids were asked to stand on opposite sides, depending on whether they think he would sink it. Most kids moved in one direction, but one boy went to the “miss” side.

“Oh, man,” a stunned POTUS said, hands on hips. The boy didn’t budge. And three others joined.

In sharp form, POTUS released the ball. It bounced off the rim and circled it — miss.

“Come on. Come on. Did you see that?” Obama said.

It got worse.

A little while later, after playing tennis, Obama started to take shots amid the kids and pros.

Miss. Miss. Off the rim. Miss. Miss. Off the rim. Airball.

He moved closer to the net.

But time and again, he missed. Of 22 shots POTUS took, he made two. (22 was general consensus of poolers)

At one point, POTUS handed a ball to a boy and asked for help. The boy made the layup.

“He couldn’t make one. I had to help him out,” said Kahron Campbell, 10, of Landover, Md.
