Photo by pollyesther.Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) was released from Howard University Hospital today after checking in yesterday with low blood sugar. Barry, who suffers from Type 2 diabetes, was released at 12:45 p.m.
Barry announced his hospitalization last night on Twitter, but neither he nor his aides named the facility at which he was receiving treatment. Like yesterday’s news, he went to Twitter to say he had stayed overnight at Howard.
In another tweet, Barry said his doctors switched the type of insulin he takes to treat his diabetes. “It appears fast acting Novolog insulin may be a bit strong so my doc is switching me to long release Lantis,” he wrote.
Barry, 77, had a health scare last year while attending a conference in Las Vegas and suffered a blood clot. He checked in to a hospital in that city and, like this most recent visit to Howard University Hospital, shot out several tweets during the ordeal. The mayor-for-life was diagnosed with diabetes about 20 years ago, and underwent a kidney transplant in 2009. He has also been treated in the past for prostate cancer.
Real talk: Diabetes is a *itch. BUT I’M BACK! Much love for all the prayers and well wishes, MB. Thank you Howard University.I love you all!
