>> Many of the Metropolitan Police Department’s police cars are old and need to be replaced, reports the Examiner. According to the department, 24 percent of the department’s fleet will be ready to be replaced during this fiscal year; police cars are supposed to be replaced every 100,000 miles or five years. As part of his 2014 budget, Mayor Vince Gray put $7.2 million towards replacing aging police cars.

Currently, the president’s salary is exempted from any cuts, and congressional salaries have enjoyed the same protection.
