With Teddy now just a regular competitor and the representation of William Howard Taft causing some consternation among the actual Taft’s descendants, the Washington Nationals fourth-inning Racing Presidents could use a new gimmick. Tomorrow night, it’ll be an HBO promotion.

Tourists walking around the White House last week might have spotted a mascot version of Selina Meyer, the U.S. vice president played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Veep, which begins its second season April 14. Well, it didn’t take long for the Nationals and HBO to give away the gag, when the Twitter account assigned to the Theodore Roosevelt character started messaging HBO’s account for Armando Iannucci’s comedy of errors about the executive branch.

Per The Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg, the Selina mascot will indeed be at Nationals Park tomorrow night and will line up along the Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt characters to dash around the warning track. Assuming Skinny Taft is there, too, it could be a bit crowded.

Then again, this might be Washington, but Veep seems like the wrong show to promote with the Racing Presidents. After all, it’s a contest of chief executives, not their woe-begotten No. 2’s. Veep is a fine show, but the Nats and HBO missed a critical opportuntiy here to do a Game of Thrones race, which could feature six characters who all insist they are the rightful leader. A foot race between mascot versions of Joffrey Baratheon, Stannis Baratheon, Robb Stark, Balon Greyjoy, Mance Rayder, and Daenerys Targaryen would be way more interesting! And messier! (Oh, and sorry, Renly Baratheon fans. Your king’s been dead since halfway through last season.)
