Several blocks of major roads in downtown D.C. will be closed tomorrow for events connected to the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Tomorrow features both the Sakura Matsuri, a Japanese street fair, as well as the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade.

With the events, the District Department of Transportation will be closing off key thoroughfares to vehicular traffic beginning early Saturday morning. Beginning at 4:30 a.m., DDOT will close off the parade’s staging area, which takes up Seventh Street between Pennsylvania Avenue NW and Independence Avenue SW, and Constitution Avenue between Sixth and Ninth streets NW. The affected blocks will re-open at 1 p.m.

The parade route, runs along Constitution Avenue between Seventh and 17th streets NW. Constitution Avenue will be closed between Seventh and 23rd streets beginning at 9:30 a.m., and will reopen at 1 p.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

Additionally, DDOT is closing several blocks from this evening through tomorrow for the Sakura Matsuri, a Japanese-style street festival. Beginning at 7 p.m., the following segments will be closed to traffic:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue between Ninth Street NW and 14th Street NW
  • 13th Street, NW between Pennsylvania Avenue and E Street NW
  • 12th Street NW, between Constitution Avenue and E Street NW
  • 11th Street, NW, between Pennsylvania Avenue and E Street NW
  • 10th Street, NW between Constitution Avenue and E Street NW

The affected streets will re-open at 11 p.m. Saturday.
